02 Oct Prime Religious Figure Suffers Flat Feet
Catholic Church leader Pope Francis has worn his signature black leather shoes for over 35 years. His cobbler, 80-year-old Carlos Samaria, revealed that Pope Francis actually has flat feet.
“He came to me and asked me if I could correct a slight walking defect. He has quite flat feet, so he needs comfortable shoes,” said Samaria to Italian magazine Gente.
The Pope’s new shoes “are the simplest model, with laces. By now I could make them with my eyes closed, he always wants the same style,” according to Samaria. “I suggested adding a little decoration, just for a change, but he wouldn’t hear of it.” Samaria, 80, has been Francis’s shoemaker for over 40 years and describes Francis as a smart, thoughtful man with the humility of a bird.
